The Five Lessons of Golf
All of the photos on this website are part of a series of images shot by Anthony Ravielli in 1957. He was commissioned by Hogan to produce illustrations for a yet to be named instructional book.
Hogan already had a good idea of the content being five simple lessons that could be understood by average golfers, and applied to their swings. One day in early 1957, Ravielli and HW Wind flew to Ft. Worth, Texas, and met Hogan at the Colonial CC.
Hogan used the closed practice range and personally demonstrated and verbalized the Five Lessons to Ravielli and Wind. Ravielli caught the posed positions and action shots on film, while Wind jotted notes.
The net result was The Modern Fundamentals: The Five lessons of Golf. Golf's undisputed heavyweight champion of instructional books. Called the Bible of Golf, this title has sold many millions of copies, and still rests at the top of most current golf best seller lists.
